Now the next step is regarding toll tax. Yes, let me tell you that there is going to be a big change on the highways by March next year i.e. 2024. The government is planning to install a GPS-based toll collection system.
In fact, regarding this, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that to change the existing system of toll plazas, the government will introduce new technologies including GPS-based toll collection system by March. He said that the government is considering introducing new technologies including GPS-based toll system to change the toll plaza system in the country.
He also explained its benefits. The minister said that with the implementation of this system, people will be able to move without stopping on the highway and this will save a lot of people’s time. He also gave an example. The minister said that during the year 2018-19, vehicles were allowed to stop at toll plazas. On average one had to wait for eight minutes. But with the introduction of Fastag in the year 2020-21 and 2021-22, now people leave in less than 1 minute.
With the implementation of this system, now people will not have to waste time at the toll plaza while going on the highway and will be able to move forward easily. Earlier, when more vehicles were arriving together, people had to face crowding. Used to have to be done but now there will be no such thing. The target of implementing this system has been set by April 2024.
