This year is going to be very important from the highway point of view because about 5 new highways are to be constructed in 2024. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has already listed the number of new expressways to be built by next year. Regarding this, Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has assured that some of them will become operational very soon.
The aim is that as soon as summer starts, around the time of Lok Sabha elections, some major expressways will be started. Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is at number one among them. This expressway is the most awaited longest expressway of India, which connects the capital and the business capital of the country. According to officials, the target has been set to have this expressway completely ready by next year.
Let me tell you that at present the first part of the expressway between Sohna in Haryana and Dausa in Rajasthan has been commissioned. Whose length is 209 kilometers long. And its total distance is said to be 1,386 kilometers. This expressway will pass through five states including Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra.
With its construction, the distance between the capital Delhi and Mumbai will be reduced by 180 kilometers. Currently, it takes almost 24 hours to travel through this expressway, but after its construction, people will be able to travel in just 12 hours. This expressway is being constructed at a cost of approximately Rs 17,000 crore.
The names of the five expressways which are targeted to be operational this year are as follows:
- Delhi-Mumbai Expressway
- Bangalore-Chennai Expressway
- Dwarka Expressway
- Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway
- Delhi-Dehradun Expressway
