During his intermediate years, his aspirations climbed higher as he aimed for one of the most prestigious institutions in India: the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT). Through sheer determination and hard work, Shivam’s efforts bore fruit as he cleared the rigorous Joint Entrance Exam (JEE), securing a coveted seat in IIT Kanpur.
International Stint and Return to Roots
After completing his engineering degree with distinction from IIT Kanpur, the world was at Shivam’s feet. A lucrative placement opportunity with a prominent Japanese company beckoned him, and he embarked on a new journey in Japan. But, as they say, home is where the heart is. Shivam returned to India after a brief stint abroad, joining a renowned company.
While his professional journey flourished, it was during this phase that he encountered the grassroots realities of India. Living amidst the rural-urban juxtaposition, he witnessed firsthand the struggles, dreams, and aspirations of Indian farmers. Their resilience amidst adversities deeply moved him.
Civil Service Dreams with Farmers at Heart
Motivated by the plight of the farmers and driven by the belief that he could make a tangible difference through the civil service, Shivam set his sights on the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination. Preparation for this rigorous exam demanded unwavering focus and dedication.
While his first attempt did not culminate in success, Shivam’s resilience shone through. He cleared the exam in his subsequent try, albeit being allotted the Indian Revenue Service. However, his heart was set on the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). Not one to settle, Shivam persevered.
His unwavering dedication bore fruit in 2018 when he clinched the All India Rank of 251 in the UPSC examination. With this commendable achievement, he realized his dream of becoming an IAS officer.
