Earlier on October 12th, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath undertook an inspection of the venues where the inauguration will take place. This groundbreaking rail service, dubbed RAPIDx, kicks off with a 17-kilometer section as part of the initial phase. This stretch is a fragment of the 82-kilometer Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor, with 14 kilometers spanning Delhi and the remaining 68 kilometers in Uttar Pradesh.

The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) is at the forefront of developing this regional rapid transit system (RRTS), which will seamlessly connect with various lines of the Delhi Metro. The ambitious network aims to link Delhi with other key cities like Alwar, Panipat, and Meerut.

Post the initial phase, the project will extend from Duhai to Meerut, followed by another phase connecting Sahibabad to Delhi. By 2025, travelers can anticipate a swift 55-minute commute between Delhi and Meerut.

Designed to run at a top speed of 180 km/h, the RAPIDx RRTS trains, however, will operate at a brisk pace of 160 km/h, enabling a journey of 100 kilometers in just about an hour. These six-coach trains, reminiscent of bullet trains in appearance, cater to passengers seeking fast, quiet, and long-distance travel. In its first stretch, the rail service will cover stations from Sahibabad to Duhai Depot.

A distinguishing feature of the RAPIDx is its commitment to speedy, safe, and comfortable regional commutation. The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor promises to foster decentralized and balanced development in the National Capital Region (NCR), creating avenues for employment, business, and education. With this sustainable public transport mode, there’s an anticipated significant reduction in congestion and air pollution.

Key features of the rapid rail include adjustable 2×2 seating, designated standing areas for passengers, complimentary Wi-Fi, mobile charging points, luggage racks, entertainment systems, and more. Furthermore, automatic plug-in doors, selective door opening via push buttons, and dedicated coaches and seats for women enhance the commuting experience.

India’s leap into advanced rapid transit epitomizes a blend of technological advancement and passenger-centric amenities, all aimed at streamlining daily commutes while ensuring comfort and safety.
