Sonal Goyal, hailing from Panipat, Haryana, embarked on a journey that was unexpected and full of challenges. Yet, her dedication and commitment have inspired many to follow their dreams, no matter the obstacles.
Educational Foundations:
Sonal’s academic journey started in Delhi. She pursued her primary education there and then went on to complete her graduation in Commerce from the prestigious Shri Ram College. With a drive for the corporate world, she achieved her Company Secretary degree, carving out a clear path in the corporate realm.
A Change in Direction:
Although she was well on her way to establishing herself in the corporate sector, destiny had other plans. One day, Sonal stumbled upon an article about an IPS officer. The story deeply resonated with her, igniting a spark and setting her on a new path. The dedication, challenges, and impact that came with the role of an IPS officer inspired her to pivot her career aspirations.
Facing Family Expectations:
Informed by her newfound ambition, Sonal shared her intention to pursue the UPSC exam with her family. Her father, while supportive, was skeptical of this drastic shift in trajectory. He believed the UPSC exam, regarded as one of the toughest in the country, would not be easy to crack. Advising prudence, he suggested Sonal maintain a backup plan. Taking this counsel to heart, while preparing for the UPSC, Sonal simultaneously enrolled in Delhi University’s LLB program.
Overcoming Hurdles:
Sonal’s maiden attempt at the UPSC in 2006 didn’t yield the desired result. However, undeterred and with a renewed vigor, she worked diligently, refining her strategy and preparation. Her determination bore fruit when, in 2007, she achieved an impressive 13th rank in the All Over India standings.
