Let me tell you that this is the first indoor metro project in India with the country’s much awaited first metro train running under the Hooghly (Ganga) river in Kolkata on Wednesday.
In which two tunnels have been built under the Hooghly river. Friends, the length of this tunnel is around 520 kilometers. This is part of the 4.8 kilometer long Howrah Maidan-Esplanade underground metro section. And this is part of the entire larger 4.8 km long Howrah Maidan-Esplanade underground metro section.
Also, friends, on this occasion, Bengal Governor Dr. CV Anand Bose and the country’s Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav were also present. Friends, the trial run on the 4.8 kilometer underground section up to Esplanade in Howrah Maidan was started in the month of April last year. Under which two excellent tunnels were built about 13 meters deep inside the Hooghly River. Due to which, after connecting with Kolkata city, the metro will take less than a minute i.e. only 45 seconds to cross the river through the tunnel.
