In a significant move to boost industrial growth in Uttar Pradesh, the government has unveiled a plan to establish 11 new industrial cities along the Ganga Expressway. This ambitious project is set to redefine the industrial landscape of the region and spur economic development.
The Ganga Expressway, stretching 594 km (369 miles) and expected to be operational by December 2024, is the backbone of this industrial expansion.
The expressway itself is a marvel of modern infrastructure, promising to enhance connectivity and facilitate smoother transportation of goods and people across the state.
These industrial cities are strategically planned near key districts:
Meerut, Hapur, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj. This placement ensures a balanced development across the state, tapping into the unique strengths and potential of each region.
The western end of the expressway begins at Bijauli village in the Meerut district, while its eastern terminus is at Judapur Dandu village in the Prayagraj district. This expansive stretch is set to become a hub of industrial activity and economic growth.
These 11 industrial cities will not just be manufacturing hubs but also include residential settlements, ensuring a holistic development.
By situating these settlements near the districts of UP, the plan ensures that the benefits of industrial growth are widespread and accessible.
The scope of this project is vast, encompassing 30 tehsils across 29 districts. Notably, two tehsils from Ambedkar Nagar have also been included, signifying the inclusive nature of this development plan.
The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) will be maintaining these industrial cities.
UPEIDA’s involvement ensures that the development is not only efficient and sustainable but also aligned with the broader goals of state and national development.
