While it’s projected that the entire expressway might be completed by 2024, the majority of the construction activities are expected to conclude by the end of this year. This mega-infrastructure project is set to link several major cities across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, promising enhanced connectivity and ease of travel.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has suggested that the inaugural phases of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway could be unveiled by December 2023, post which it will be open for travelers.

A Highway Connecting Multiple Cities

Spanning 210 kilometers, the Delhi-Saharanpur-Dehradun Expressway will boast 12 lanes, ensuring smooth and fast traffic flow. With its introduction, the journey between Delhi and Dehradun will become remarkably quicker, dropping down to just 2.5 hours, a significant reduction from the current 4.5 to 5 hours taken by road.

Not only will the expressway provide a direct link between Delhi and Dehradun, but it will also connect to various towns and cities in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh, such as Saharanpur, Shamli, Baraut, and Bagpat.

Additionally, the expressway will facilitate easier travel to Haridwar, with the inclusion of the 50.7-kilometer, 6-lane Saharanpur-Roorkee-Haridwar Expressway and the 101-kilometer, 6-lane Ambala-Gangoh-Shamli Expressway. The initial phase will span between Delhi’s Akshardham and the Eastern Peripheral Expressway Junction, colloquially known as the EPE Junction, while the subsequent phase will stretch from the EPE Junction to Saharanpur.

As the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway nears its completion by 2024, it’s poised to be a vital lifeline for Delhiites traveling to Uttarakhand, ushering in a new era of road travel in India.
