Best Selling Sedan: The Indian car market is witnessing an interesting shift in trends, especially in the sedan segment. Once dominated by models like the Honda City, the market is now experiencing a significant transformation. The Honda City, known for its charm and popularity, has seen a notable decline in its sales, reflecting changing consumer preferences.
In October 2023, the Honda City found itself in an unusual position, ranking eighth among the top 10 best-selling sedans. This is a stark contrast to its previous market dominance. Notably, the Tata Tigor, a model that traditionally trailed behind the City, has now surpassed it in sales, marking a significant shift in the market dynamics.
The decline in Honda City’s sales is quite dramatic. October 2023 saw a 52% drop in its sales compared to the same month last year. In October 2022, Honda sold 3,250 units of the City, but this number plummeted to just 1,553 units in October 2023. This stark decrease highlights the changing landscape of the Indian sedan market.
Despite the overall contraction in the sedan segment, some models have shown impressive resilience. The Maruti Suzuki Dezire has taken the lead, selling 14,699 units in October 2023, marking a growth of about 19%. This performance cements the Dezire’s position as the country’s favorite sedan.
The Honda Amaze managed to secure the third spot with sales of 2,890 units, followed by the Hyundai Verna in fourth place with 2,313 units sold. These models continue to attract a significant number of buyers, demonstrating their enduring appeal.
Further down the list, the Skoda Slavia secured the fifth spot with 1,943 units sold, while the Volkswagen Virtus followed closely at sixth, selling 1,772 units. The Tata Tigor, with its 1,563 units sold, came in at seventh, indicating its rising popularity.
Interestingly, the Honda City, once a leader, is now preceded by these newer models, reflecting a shift in customer preferences. Following the City, the Maruti Ciaz managed to grab the ninth spot with 695 units sold. Concluding the list is the Toyota Camry, with a modest sale of 197 units.
This reshuffling in the sedan market is indicative of a broader trend in the Indian automotive sector. Customers are increasingly gravitating towards models that offer a blend of affordability, features, and brand reliability, reshaping the landscape of what was once a predictable market.
