Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest car manufacturer, has announced that it has surpassed the milestone of selling 10 lakh automatic vehicles, establishing itself as a leader in the automatic car segment. The company has played a significant role in expanding the two-pedal automatic car technology at the domestic level.

Currently, the company offers four automatic transmission options across 16 models in various segments. These options include AMT, four-speed torque converter automatic with paddle shifters, six-speed torque converter AT, and E-CVT (electronic continuously variable transmission). Maruti Suzuki introduced the AMT technology almost a decade ago, and it now accounts for 65% of the automatic cars sold.

Among the different transmission options, torque converter automatic holds a 27% share, while E-CVT contributes to approximately 8% of the automatic sales. Shashank Srivastava, Senior Executive Director (Marketing and Sales) at Maruti Suzuki India, expressed their enthusiasm to provide customers with the best driving experience. He stated, “We have made ‘driving delight’ our mission in Maruti Suzuki! This sentiment has enabled us to democratize automatic transmission technology with various options and we are truly grateful for the response we have received from our customers.”

The sales of Maruti Suzuki cars equipped with automatic transmission have consistently increased in recent years, nearing one lakh units in this financial year. It is worth noting that Nexa customers prefer higher-spec variants, while Arena customers opt for mid-level trims.

In terms of regions, Delhi and the National Capital Region, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Kerala have been significant contributors to automatic car sales. The five-speed AMT is currently available in Alto K10, S-Presso, Celerio, WagonR, Ignis, Swift, Baleno, and Dzire models.
