Bajaj Sunny EV: Bajaj Auto, one of India’s leading automobile manufacturers, has been testing a new electric scooter that could support the Sunny nameplate in the Indian market. The Bajaj Sunny was a small and attractive two-stroke scooter that was sold in the 1990s. Now, the company could give it an electric avatar. Recently, it was spotted during testing and the company may present the Sunny EV in its original design. However, there is no official information available regarding this.

In terms of design, the overall shape of the scooter reminds us of the original Sunny, featuring a round headlamp, a large front fender, a slim floorboard, and a tail lamp that looks like a box. The way the rider is seated on the scooter suggests that it will be equally stylish and compact. Other features include 3-spoke wheels, trailing arm front suspension, drum brakes, and even a rear grab handle/carrier.

Compared to the old Sunny and this electric scooter, the main difference is that there is no exhaust pipe on the right side. Additionally, the Bajaj Sunny EV does not have any additional tires on the floorboard. Instead, a large battery pack can be seen in place of the spare wheel, although it is unlikely that we will see this design in the production variant.

Speaking of the old Sunny, it was powered by a 60cc two-stroke engine, which produced 2.8 horsepower. It had decent performance, and we can expect similar performance from the Sunny EV as well. However, being an electric vehicle, its torque could be significantly better compared to its original model.

The new Sunny was seen with a hub motor, and its overall shape suggests that it is based on a completely different platform from the larger Bajaj Chetak. It is likely that the new Bajaj Sunny will be based on the Yulu platform, which has been engineered and built entirely by Bajaj. Currently, the Yulu platform is used in the Dex GR.

At present, there is no clear indication that Bajaj intends to bring the new Sunny EV to the market. The fact that it has been spotted during testing means that there is still some time left, and we can expect its launch in the next one or two years. The Sunny EV will be positioned below the Chetak in the brand’s portfolio.
