An Affordable Venture
Bhavram’s research on the Redlady variety revealed its cost-effectiveness and superior quality. Banking on this knowledge, he procured 2500 Redlady plants for Rs 25 each and initiated his foray into the world of Taiwanese papaya cultivation.
Organic Beginnings
In 2021’s Kharif season, Bhavram cultivated these plants over 2.35 hectares. Eschewing chemical fertilizers, he committed to an organic approach, nourishing his farm with natural manure.
Efficient Farming
To optimize expenses, Bhavram adopted drip irrigation. This efficient method led to rapid plant growth. Within six months, his papayas showed significant progress, promising a bountiful harvest.
Marketplace Struggles and Triumphs
While the first harvest was successful, the market prices weren’t as rewarding. Not one to be deterred, Bhavram became his own salesperson. Parking his tractor or trolley by the roadside, he sold his produce directly to consumers. The taste of the Taiwanese papaya won many hearts, and soon he was selling up to 5 quintals a day.
The Demand for Bhavram’s Papaya
The unique flavor and quality of Bhavram’s papayas began to resonate. The Jalore market buzzed with requests for his produce, establishing him as a household name. His story became an inspiration for many aspiring farmers.
Investment and Returns
Having invested Rs 62,500 initially, the returns were extraordinary. To date, Bhavram’s sales have touched a whopping Rs 1 crore. This remarkable ROI led Bhavram to regard Taiwanese papaya farming as a game changer.
