The Central Cabinet has brought forth excellent news for beneficiaries under the government’s Ujjwala Scheme. Now, beneficiaries of the Ujjwala Scheme can avail LPG cylinders at just ₹600. The government has increased the subsidy amount under this scheme. Following the Cabinet meeting, Central Minister Anurag Thakur announced, “The government has raised the subsidy amount for Prime Minister Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries from ₹200 to ₹300 per cylinder.” This announcement will benefit 9.59 crore registered beneficiaries of the scheme.
The Indian government provides subsidies for LPG connections under this scheme. For a 14.2 kg cylinder, ₹1600 is provided, and for a 5 kg cylinder, ₹1150 is provided. This cash assistance includes:
- Security deposit for the cylinder – ₹1250 for 14.2 kg cylinder, ₹800 for 5 kg cylinder.
- Pressure regulator – ₹150
- LPG hose – ₹100
- Domestic Gas Consumer Card – ₹25
- Inspection/Installation/Demonstration charges – ₹75
Additionally, Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) also offer interest-free loans to beneficiaries of the scheme. This loan includes the cost of the initial LPG cylinder refill, along with the charges for the stove (₹565 for a 1-burner stove, ₹990 for a 2-burner stove), and connection installation.
