England set a challenging target of 283 after their innings ended at 282 for 9 wickets in 50 overs. The Kiwis, under Captain Tom Latham’s leadership, chose to field first after winning the toss.

However, the Kiwi batsmen took the field by storm, particularly Indian-origin New Zealander Rachin Ravindra. Batting at number three, Ravindra displayed an aggressive form, quickly racking up runs and achieving a splendid century in just 82 balls. His innings was adorned with 4 sixes and 9 boundaries, truly tormenting the English bowlers. Not stopping at that, Ravindra also secured a wicket during the English innings.

Ravindra, born in Wellington, New Zealand, boasts of Indian heritage. His father, Ravi Krishnamurti, a software architect, played club-level cricket in Bengaluru, India, before moving to New Zealand.

An astounding partnership between Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra was the highlight of the day. Both achieved centuries and together contributed an impressive 200-run stand for the second wicket. The Kiwis found themselves in a precarious position at 10/1 after the early loss of opener Will Young. But Ravindra and Conway steadied the ship, looking unstoppable. With just 69 more runs required, New Zealand seems to be in a comfortable position to clinch their first win of the World Cup 2023.

This intense clash has set the tone for what promises to be a riveting World Cup.
