Pushpa Jha from Bihar stands as a testament to resilience and perseverance. Despite facing grave adversities, she emerged as a shining beacon for many in her state.

Rising from the Ashes:

Pushpa’s journey began in 2010 when she delved into mushroom cultivation. This decision wasn’t only a business choice but a deliberate move towards a sustainable farming practice that required less space and manpower than conventional crops.

Currently, residing in Balbhadrapur village, Darbhanga district, Pushpa produces 10 kg of mushrooms daily. Selling them between Rs 100 to 150 per kg, she garners a daily income of Rs 1000 to 1500.

Undeterred by Challenges:

Pushpa’s venture wasn’t always smooth sailing. While she initially saw promising results, unforeseen adversaries burned down her farm. Pushpa, however, with unwavering resolve, rebuilt it with the support of her husband, Rajesh. Despite being a teacher by profession, Rajesh has been an unwavering pillar of support for Pushpa, even inspiring her initial interest in mushroom farming.

Empowering Others:

Beyond personal gains, Pushpa’s journey in mushroom farming has benefited over 20,000 individuals. She has provided training on mushroom cultivation, allowing many to embark on similar entrepreneurial journeys.

Diversifying and Innovating:

Pushpa’s dedication isn’t confined merely to cultivation. She has branched out into processing mushrooms into various products, including pickles, biscuits, toast, and chips. This innovation ensures that unsold mushrooms don’t go to waste and are transformed into products that fetch a good price in the market.

Recognizing Excellence:

Pushpa’s dedication and innovative approach didn’t go unnoticed. Pusa Agricultural University conferred upon her the ‘Innovative Farmer Award’, acknowledging her significant contributions to mushroom cultivation and processing.
