Toyota Kirloskar Motor is working on a new SUV with the codename 340D, along with expanding its production capacity locally in India. The partnership with Suzuki has helped Toyota gain traction in the Indian market. Models like the entry-level Glanza premium hatchback, recently launched Rumiyan MPV, and the Urban Cruiser midsize SUV have contributed to the company’s sales growth.

According to a recent report, Toyota is planning to expand its production capacity locally for the first time in over a decade. The third plant will have the capacity to produce 80,000 to 120,000 units per year initially, which could increase to over 200,000 units in the future. Toyota’s production in India is expected to increase by up to 30 percent.

The report also states that Toyota is developing a completely new SUV specifically for India, which is scheduled to be launched in 2026 and will be manufactured in the new plant. Currently, the Glanza and Urban Cruiser contribute 40 percent of the total volume.

Additionally, Toyota utilizes its three-fourth production capacity through Maruti Suzuki for the production of vehicles such as the Vitara Brezza, Baleno, and the rebadged Toyota vehicles like the Urban Cruiser, which are manufactured in the TKM Bidadi plant.

Toyota aims to have a production capacity of five lakh units per year by the end of 2030. The proposed third plant will be established in Bidadi as well. A few months ago, Toyota added a new shift in both of its plants, increasing the capacity to more than four lakh units. The upcoming SUV with the codename 340D is expected to be positioned between the Highlander Hyrid and the Innova Crysta in the portfolio.

The annual production estimate for the Toyota 340D is around 60,000 units, and it could potentially be the much-awaited 7-seater Corolla Cross. Toyota is also evaluating the pricing of the Land Cruiser Mini for the Indian market, which would compete with the five-door Suzuki Jimny and could be assembled locally if it receives green clearance. In the coming months, the Urban Cruiser facelift, the new variant of the Maruti Suzuki Celerio, and a possible launch of the Suzuki Vitara are expected in India.
