Academic Foundation:

Smita’s journey began in the hallways of St. Ann’s, Maredpally, in Hyderabad. Her academic prowess was evident early on when she achieved the All India First Rank in Class 12th. Post this remarkable achievement, Smita pursued her B.Com from St. Francis Degree College for Women, continuing her legacy of excellence.

Perseverance Pays Off:

While success seems a constant companion to Smita, it wasn’t always smooth sailing. Her first attempt at the Prelims did not yield the desired result. However, showcasing her characteristic grit, she aced the UPSC exam in her subsequent attempt in 2000. This victory, at just 23, added another feather to her already illustrious cap.

The Army Influence:

Hailing from the picturesque town of Darjeeling, Smita fondly calls herself an ‘army brat’. Her father, Colonel PK Das, served the nation with distinction in the Indian Army. This background instilled in her a sense of discipline and commitment. Her administrative services have since been characterized by her stellar work and innovative approach, making her a well-respected figure in the IAS fraternity.

The Study Regimen and Beyond:

A deep dive into her study methods reveals Smita’s balanced approach to preparation. Committing six hours daily, she blended rigorous study with rejuvenating activities to keep burnout at bay. This combination ensured she stayed refreshed and focused on her ultimate goal.

Trailblazer in Telangana:

Smita Sabharwal’s accomplishments didn’t just halt after her UPSC victory. She made history by becoming the first woman IAS officer appointed to the Chief Minister’s Office of Telangana. Currently, she dons the hat of Secretary to the Chief Minister. Moreover, she juggles additional responsibilities as the Secretary of the Department of Rural Water Supply and Sanitation, colloquially known as the Mission Bhagiratha Department.
