Attention to all who have invested or are planning to invest in small savings schemes: The clock is ticking on a crucial directive issued by the Finance Ministry. If you’ve been unacquainted with the recent changes, you might soon face the freezing of your accounts, including those in the Public Provident Fund (PPF) and Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana.

Here’s what you need to know:

A Crucial Alert for Investors:

This piece is a must-read for anyone who has vested interests in small savings or post office schemes. The implications of non-compliance with the new rules are serious and could directly affect the liquidity and functionality of your investments.

Tightened Rules Since April 2023:

The Finance Ministry, in its drive to ensure better transparency and accountability in financial transactions, amended specific regulations in April 2023. To reinstate any accounts affected by these changes, adherence to the updated rules is essential, and the deadline is the 30th of September.

Mandatory KYC Requirements:

Going forward, those investing in savings schemes, such as the PPF, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, Post Office Scheme, and Senior Citizens Saving Scheme, must now furnish both PAN and Aadhaar as part of their KYC (Know Your Customer) process.

Aadhaar and PAN – Now Essential:

The Central Government has now made it compulsory for individuals to provide their Aadhar Card and PAN Card when participating in its small savings schemes.

Aadhaar Enrollment Number as an Alternative:

For those who have not yet obtained their Aadhaar number from UIDAI, the Aadhaar enrollment number has been deemed an acceptable substitute.

PAN Submission during Account Creation:

The directive also emphasizes the need to provide the PAN card during the initial phase of opening an account in any small savings scheme.

Affected Schemes:

The directive applies explicitly to several savings schemes, which include:

Post Office Fixed Deposit (FD)

Sukanya Samridhi Yojana (SSY)

Mahila Samman Savings Certificates

Kisan Vikas Patra (KVP)
