Bajaj Auto’s Managing Director, Rajiv Bajaj, recently revealed in an interview that the “biggest Pulsar ever” is coming soon. Due to the launch of competing models like the Triumph Speed 400, the third-generation KTM 390 Duke, and the KTM 250 Duke, Bajaj Auto has been busy in 2023 and plans to bring even more motorcycles in the coming financial year and beyond.

Towards the end of this financial year or in Q1 FY25, at least six updated or new Pulsar models are expected, including the biggest Pulsar ever. The Pulsar 400 has been long overdue since Bajaj showcased the CS 400 and SS 400 concepts at the 2014 Auto Expo. However, the company has focused on strengthening its N series Pulsar in the past two years.

In addition to that, Bajaj updated the Pulsar NS 200 and NS 160 with USD front forks earlier this year. According to a recent report, the upcoming flagship Pulsar, the Pulsar 400, will be the NS variant. It will not use the all-new 400cc liquid-cooled engine found in the latest generation KTM 390 Duke or Triumph Speed 400.

Instead, it will be powered by the same 373cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled DOHC engine that powers the Dominar 400. To keep production costs under control, Bajaj is expected to use the same steel perimeter frame as the NS 200. It is also worth noting that its kerb weight will be lower compared to the Dominar 400.

The 373cc engine shares many similarities with the older-generation 390 Duke engine, producing a maximum power of 40 PS at 8,800 rpm and a peak torque of 35 Nm at 6,500 rpm. It will be mated to a 6-speed transmission with slipper and assist clutch as standard.

The design of the Pulsar 400 is expected to be more premium compared to the current NS lineup. It is likely to feature all-LED lighting, a fully digital instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity, upside-down front forks, a monoshock rear suspension, and dual-channel ABS as standard. It will be more affordable than the Dominar 400, with an expected price of around INR 2.3 lakh (ex-showroom), and is slated for launch between April and June 2024.
